Cubiertos PLA Biodegradables

NOVELTIES OF THE CATALOG 2019/2020 (II)

This novelties instalment comes full of fresh products that we’re very excited to tell you about. First of all, we have some new products that we think offer the best properties while also being as environmentally-friendly as possible. We would particularly like to highlight the cutlery items, salad containers, cups and snack cup holders made from biodegradable materials.

In order to comply with the new European Directive on reducing disposable plastics, which will come into force in 2021, we are focusing on sustainable materials; in other words, those that are made from renewable resources.

In this post, we are emphasising two new alternative materials to oil derivatives. Although they are very different, all three are considered to be eco-friendly materials because they are 100% biodegradable, additive-free and contain no toxins, thereby fully respecting the environment.

First of all we added new products made from PLA (and its crystallised variety, CPLA), a recently-invented bioplastic made from 100% natural resources such as corn starch, sugar cane or manioc, which are safe for contact with food. Both PLA and CPLA are biodegradable and compostable.

Tarrinas biodegradables

Dessert/coffee spoon | CPLA

Given how well the CPLA cutlery items first seen in the previous catalogue were received, the range has been expanded this year with a dessert/coffee spoon and the ice-cream spoons. We have also duplicated the entire cutlery collection in a new colour: black. This colour enhances the elegance of these products and gives them a stronger presence, allowing them to be introduced into more demanding sectors.

In the PLA range, our new catalogue adds some magnificent transparent salad containers to the cutlery range, which are perfect for preparing all sorts of salads and cold dishes in an environmentally sustainable receptacle. They are rigid, stable and stackable, with a folding lid that allows the container to be sealed securely to perfectly preserve the food. This material can withstand temperatures from -20ºC up to 40ºC.

Biodegradable line of bagasse cellulose cardboard cups

We also use PLA to waterproof the inner lining of the new biodegradable line of bagasse cellulose cardboard cups, which come in various sizes (240ml, 360ml and 480ml) with CPLA lids in black or translucent white. Lidless versions are also available in 120ml and for vending machines (210ml). These are entirely biodegradable and compostable products because bagasse cellulose is a composite material made from 70% sugar cane and 30% wood pulp.

Finally, we would also like to present the new receptacle and snack cup holders. These are ideal for the catering trade because they allow snacks and aperitifs to be carried from one place to another without spilling the contents because the support prevents them from tipping over. The pre-die-cut shape and support structure means they can be used with a wide range of shapes and sizes.

These holders are made from 100% biodegradable 275g/m2 white cardboard.
