Menus 0 – Placemats 1

Vintage style is all the rage as a new approach in the restaurant sector. While in the past we may have been surprised to go to a restaurant where the only option is that the waiters reel off the menu from memory, now it is a new requirement of lockdown easing. ‘Leave the menu alone and sit down properly’ is something we’re not going to be hearing from parents for some time, because, due to Covid-19 prevention measures, having a menu in restaurants is no longer permitted in order to avoid contact with surfaces that pass through many hands.

Imagination is power and innovation. And as long as the so-called ‘new normal’ ceases to be abnormal, alternatives must be sought, just in case waiters end up losing their voices. In fact, before the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, many of the changes that have now suddenly come into force were already starting to be implemented. Occasionally, some things come to stay. So what options do restaurants have to provide information on food while maintaining maximum safety for all?

At García de Pou we propose customising individual placemats as an easy option, for both the establishment and customers, that is quick, effortless and safe to use, since they are disposable and will only be touched by the diner. At García de Pou we offer two options: the Flexo Line and the Offset Line, which both come in different weights, made from either cellulose or recycled paper. Our cellulose products come certified with the PEFC seal of sustainable forest management and, in most cases, we use compostable inks in an effort to protect the environment, which we hope is a factor that will be considered as part of the new changes caused by the Coronavirus pandemic. In terms of colours and textures, we guarantee that at Garcia de Pou we do not fall short and to prove our point, just click on the following link.

What’s more, there are other more digital options, such as printing QR codes on coasters, napkins and other media, such as those found in the García de Pou catalogue, so that diners can download the menu onto their mobile phones. A whole other matter are mobile apps that do the same thing and even allow customers to order online.

If there is one thing we wish we could do post-lockdown, it is without a doubt to meet the people we love around a table. And now it’s finally time to eat out again, to sit around a table and to enjoy conversation, laughter, debates and the joy of living. We hope that social distancing is the only thing that seems abnormal to us, in the hope that we can embrace one another again soon, just as we used to pick up a restaurant menu without a second thought. Bon appétit!
