What are the ingredients for a company to survive 132 years and still grow and expand?
Ingredient num. 1: the entrepreneur spirit
The company Garcia de Pou was created in 1884 when Luis Garcia resigned from his position as chief of the railway station of Figueres to take charge of a small printing business, together with his wife Francisca de Pou. In this formerly small business was materialized the entrepreneur spirit of the family Garcia de Pou, which has been transmitted for five generations and is still alive today.
Ingredient num. 2: the adaptation to the change
Seventy-six years later, Spain undergoes the bloom of the tourist industry, which has in the Costa Brava one of its most wellknown brands. New hotels, restaurants, beach bars are built and a whole parallel industry was born to cover the needs of hotels and tourists. This is the point where the fourth generation of the family Garcia decides to re-orientate to the HORECA niche, by offering printing solutions and disposable items to the hospitality sector.
Since then, the company has developed as a manufacturer of disposable items for the hotel industry. It is a matter of not only paper and plastic printing, but also of manufacturing paper bags, bags with handle, tableware, tablecloths in roll, napkins, trays, packaging for take away, cake boxes, wrappings for hamburgers, as well as importation of disposable products like plastic cups or plastic plates… an endless number of disposable items that satisfy the daily needs of hotels, restaurants, catering and events companies of all over the world.
Ingredient num. 3: the quality as a modus vivendi
Around 1986, the family business went on the adventure of the exportation. They started in nearby countries like France and Portugal and throughout the years, together with the knowledge and adaptation to the foreign countries requirements, came the consolidation of more than forty international markets.
Today, the fourth and fifth generation members of Garcia family run the company, and their personality cannot be left out, since their sense for art and inclination for design have unavoidingly influenced in the work atmosphere of the company’s facilities in Ordis (Girona).
Nowadays we maintain our focus in improving the quality of service and product. That’s why we will build an automatic store that will give us bigger stock capacity and will allow us to keep on improving delivery times.
Ingredient num. 4: the active listening
We do not forget that the HORECA industry is changing and experiencing new needs (it has always been like that), therefore we have been actively listening and innovating in order to offer solutions to the today’s needs.
